Gibson closed the Memphis plant in April 2019. Bruno and Sons in the mid-1970s to 1980s. From wiki: 'Memphis Guitars were affordable guitars that were imported from Asia and distributed in the United States by C. 16 0001234 is the production year 20 16 with sequence number 0001234. It's hard to determine what year that model was produced, not without a model number and a serial number anyway. Gibson serial number now consists of 9 digits, the first 2 of which indicate the year and the next 7 digits the sequence numeral. One place to look is the "Gruhn's Guide to Vintage Guitars". The day and batch number were no longer included in the serial number. Just to clarify my interest: I'm trying to determine age of several lap steels manufactured as either National or Supro brands.Īny online (or other) resources for dating these lap steels ? Brozman does a good job of covering a lot of the pre-war resos, though. If you're looking for something on, say, a 1960 Supro resoglass I think you are out of luck. I don't know about anything on-line, Steve, but if you want to date a National resonator guitar, look in the back of Bob Brozman's book on Nationals.
